Quilters Dream Green Batting

January 22, 2016 By Kerri Marvel

Have you used our Quilters Dream Green batting before? If you have, how do you like it? I am becoming more and more sold on this batting the more I use it for our customers and ourselves in our sample quilts. There are several reasons for this.

  1. It is inexpensive. Because it is made of recycled plastic drinking bottles, the fiber is manmade using something we would normally throw away.
  2. It is soft. You may think that because Dream Green is made from plastic that it would feel stiff like plastic.  It doesn’t.  It is soft as any polyester fiber.
  3. It adds loft and dimension to the quilting. In the photo of the Aboriginal quilt by Melinda P., you can see the quilting of Anita Shakelford’s pattern “Modern Dew Drops Curved.” I was very pleased with the outcome as was Melinda.

If you quilt your own quilts, you can just buy the batting. It comes in sizes from craft (36” x 46”) for $7.95 to king (120” x 120”) at $29.95. Why not give Dream Green a try?  If we don’t have the size you need, we can order it for you.

See you soon,
Nancy

Proper Preparation of Fabric before Quilting

November 15, 2015 By Kerri Marvel

We usually recommend that you pre-wash your batik fabrics before you put them in your quilt. Batiks are handmade and can often have dye and/or wax left on the surface of the fabric. For that reason, we recommend that you pre-wash your batiks in cool water with a soap made for keeping the dye from depositing on other fabrics in the wash such as Synthrapol. Just a capful of Synthrapol in your water will be enough to keep the dye from transferring to other fabrics. Dry in a low temperature dryer. This procedure will prevent any dye transfer when you wash your completed quilt. NotJustQuiltZ always has Synthrapol in a 4 oz. bottle for $2.95 each.

Complete your quilt with eco-friendly batting

August 26, 2014 By Kerri Marvel

dream greenDream Green is a soft, cozy batting made 100% from recycled plastic bottles! This batting can be machine-washed and dried with little to no shrinkage. Dream Green is wrinkle-resistant. We are quite pleased to be able to offer this to our customers as an alternative to more traditional batting materials.

Each pound of Dream Green Batting keeps 10 plastic bottles out of our landfills. Plastic bottles are cut into chips, washed, melted and extruded into fine polyester fibers. These recycled fibers are indistinguishable from “virgin” polyester fibers yet are made without depleting our precious natural resources. To avoid additional processing we have kept the soft “natural” green bottle color – but you can rest assured that Dream Green is colorfast and compatible to all your finest quilts and projects.

Dream Green comes in these sizes:

  • Craft 46″ x 36″ (keeping 3.5 bottles from the landfill)
  • Crib 46″ x 60″  (keeping 5.5 bottles from the landfill)
  • Throw 60″ x 60″  (keeping 7 bottles from the landfill)
  • Twin 93″ x 72″  (keeping 13 bottles from the landfill)
