Aboriginal Artists Series – Part 1

November 8, 2015 By Kerri Marvel

Let’s begin our series by way of some background. We feature fabrics from M&S Textiles Australia, the largest manufacturer of Australian Aboriginal designs printed on good quality 100% cotton fabric.

Aboriginal artworks are popular throughout the world and the only living ancient artworks apotheke-zag.de. Its tradition goes back 50,000 years as revealed by carbon dating of rock paintings, cave paintings and so forth.   What’s amazing is that many of their artists have no formal art education or training. Their skills and artistry are handed down generation to generation.

Aboriginal artist Nambooka is very skilled and well known, becoming almost a household name for her bold and colorful designs. We’ll touch on just two of her designs today.

  1. Untitled: It depicts the crosswire. It is available in several color ways. It is a soothing pattern that can be mixed with other more colorful fabrics.
  2. Bambilla: This fabric depicts the flying glider at night which is the symbol of strength. It also portrays the spiritual world in the eyes of native Australians. Her work is well known in Victoria, by craft lovers, art enthusiasts and quilters. They all value and accept her artwork.
